The next day started with the sun, warm breakfast and
drying our tent. Yes,
do not put your tent somewhere in the field in autumn: due to the difference of
temperature during day and night, condensation inside and outside of your
"portable" home is guaranteed. Fortunately,
the sun and the wind were in friendship that day, so we dried the tent and
packed it quickly, and as quickly we walked to Madonna. People were waiting for us there.
And, indeed, as soon as we arrived at the appointed time and place, we were met by the director of the local library that was smiling by face and by heart. After two days of walking, of course, we were concerned by the thought of simple and warm shower. For this we were hastily helped, and after we were invited for lunch. That woman was taking care of us, saying that we should be ready in spirit and body to meet and talk with people.
During that lunch we met Inga a pleasant girl, too, who is in charge of culture in the city. So our meal was filled with delicious Latvian meal and a friendly conversation.
Talking about food, I want to highlight the dessert, which Stephan told me about before: this dessert consist of rye bread with dried fruits. Luckily, exactly in Madona I tried it and enjoyed it! Indeed, an unusual but extremely pleasant taste. Bread in Latvia can be considered as a separate dish because it is just delicious, and here it was turned into a dessert – just a rye miracle!
Approaching the start of the conference, we gradually moved into a hall, where all Stephan’s works were exposed. I am always glad to see them, that’s why I circled few times the hall, looking at the country he crossed the previous year , and which we are crossing right now.
I am sharing my favourite photos of the exhibition.

The hall was
filled with people, and a conversation started. Stephan spoke French. I do not understand 100, or even 60 percent of French speech (but I
am learning the language "tout les jours"!), but seeing how he describes
his previous journey, seeing all emotions and feelings, the meaning of the words became clearer.
It was not the first conference of Stephan that I was fortunate to attend to. But the difference was that now I am not just listening – I am understanding and sharing all feelings...
As a good tradition, after the official talks there was a part which is the most open and relaxed, where people were laughing, talking and wondering. I think that this format of meetings inspires those who speak and those who listen.
For all this we thank the city library and its employees that are not indifferent to their country and all its travellers.
I endlessly love life for its unpredictability and "non-randomness."
It happened that Dita (the responsible lady from French university) couldn’t come to the meeting, so she was replaced by a girl, Sandra, that was perfectly speaking French.
I was glad that Stephan had an opportunity to talk in his native beautiful language. But bit later I realized that the conversation of francophones won’t end that simple. Stephan said to me: "Today we will go to a very unusual place, which I've heard a lot about and which I wanted to see so much." There were no further explanations, we just took our backpacks and went to the next point.
