After Vaidava we had a planned visit. The visit to one of the most beautiful
cities in Latvia - Cesis.
It was quite far, so we thoroughly prepared (bought condensed milk, cookies and
black bread). So we set out.
Leaving Vaidava we noticed one feature of the town: on every street we could find chestnuts growing there. The fruits are already big, and it means, they should be ready soon. Ready for being baked over a campfire :) But everything in its own time.

We spent the night in a small house, where we were allowed to. Before the house belonged to an elderly lady, and now it is uninhabited but filled with her belongings. It was strange to be there, because things are continuing their life without the mistress herself. Well, this is life and we were just grateful to spend the night in the warmth.
In the morning we walked towards the city, it was just in few kilometers, so we were walking cheerfully with no hurry.
I was about to forget to tell you about one glorious but simple coincidence. I told you about the wonderful woman Maya that keeps horses. While talking with her, I got the idea to ask if she knows someone around who is engaged in brewing. This question appeared in my head not without a reason, all is because Stephan is very interested in doing this. And we wanted to find people in Latvia who have the knowledge of it. And occasionally Maya said that her son had just started running his brewery. We quickly arranged the meeting with the young brewer Martins, who was glad to see us too.
In the afternoon, we met with Martins and
went to his brewery.
Brewery "Raiskumietis" it's by Cesis, just 10 km from the city, in a very beautiful place - Raiskums. As soon as we arrived, Martins with enthusiasm and love for his work started to show and tell us all.
The building of the brewery seemed not to be big from outside, but in fact – it is huge! And it accommodates all necessary equipment. Immediately I want to make a point, Martins and his colleague literally resurrected this building. It was abandoned and useless, but now – it is beautiful from the outside, full of light and air inside.
As soon as we came in, I felt the wonderful flavor - the malt.

That’s what beer is made of. To be honest, I am not a big fan of this drink,
tried it one-two times in my life, but the smell created a desire to try what
guys are producing.
Without going into details, I may say that the beer here is made in the most natural way: malt, hops, yeast, manual control (better to say - care), glass bottles, wooden barrels.

The team is not big at all - just 5 people, and it is them who regularly
produce 800 liters of beer, do smoked meat and gett ready to bake the bread!
What's the secret? All the same - love for what they do.
Martins showed us already bottled beer that was ready to reach their lovers. I was pleasantly surprised by the package: the simplest form and color of the bottle, on the neck - a twine with attached labels, all in neat wooden racks. All is beautiful and stylish!
No bright and multi-color labels, stickers and carved glass. Wish it always could be so.

Moreover, guys do it the way that buyers can return the bottles and get a
discount for the next ones. Well done, just have nothing to add!
After all this, I wanted to try the beer even more. We invited Martins and his companion for a talk, and there we realized that the conversation is supposed to be with a drink of a golden color.
The conversation was both interesting and tasty. It was interesting from what the guys told us. It was delicious from the beer and "experimental" bread we tasted.
Talking about the brewery, as an idea that was in their heads for long, it was implementing for 2 years, and it's only this summer all got started.
When they were looking for "the best recipe", they were guided only by their own taste, and now, as they found it, they are really proud of it.
And I must say, there is indeed, reason to be proud!
The taste of the drink is very soft and smoothly playing. To tell the truth, I had a pleasure from drinking it: noble color and flavor with a taste of love towards the craft. Just the way it should be.
After talking with brewers, we started a conversation with other interesting couple - Eva and Christian. Two of them are managing the PR for the brewery. Before that they spent 3 months in America after leaving their jobs: they just bought the first cheap tickets available and flew away without grandiose plans - just to live. And they said it was the rightiest decision in their life. It was inspiring to hear about their experiences and at the same time great to notice the parallel features with our life. I quitted my job too before this trip, and I still feel good about it. And what I am doing and am happy about now – you can see it. So go ahead, there is nothing wrong in those steps but the increased possibility to become happier.

Picturesque story about the American trip of Eva and Christian is just here: https://instagram.com/ik.adventures
For the moment, the couple is developing their business - a restaurant on wheels (https://instagram.com/ik.food.point/). In America they found refined recipes of sandwiches, Caesar salad, oat cookies and other goods, and now prepare it all in their van and try to install a "wheel" restaurant culture in Latvia. We wish them a great success!
Christian almost immediately asked us if we already found the place for the night. We were confident in only one place –our tent. So in a moment he offered us a refuge. As he said, now it’s his time to help and share.
Our night-place was very cozy and very comfortable, so we could rest for good. And that’s what we did.)
